The activists must “temporarily” evacuate their camp in front of the European Central Bank in Frankfurt next week. The reason for this declaration of Frankfurt’s Public Order Administration is the upcoming Blockupy protests — the one’s the same administration have already banned from even taking place. The Occupy movement needs to evacuate their camp before the European Central Bank (ECB) in Frankfurt during the critical days of anti-austerity protests in the coming week . “They must leave their tents,” said Andrea Brandl from the Public Order department yesterday (Friday). The police have decided that the location of the Occupy tents by the ECB will be the focus of a restricted zone in which the proposed Blockupy protests may not take place. The deputy leader ...

New international call to Blockupy from attac academic advisors and others. Reposted from www.stop-neoliberal-crises-politics.org (in DE, FR, IT, ES there): We are experiencing the deepest crisis of capitalism since the great depression of the 30s – and the European governments continue to pour oil on the fires! From the very beginning, some governments have prevented a solidarity-based solution to the crisis in Europe and are significantly responsible for its exacerbation. This refers particularly to the German government, which, in August 2008, blocked a substantial economic stimulus package for Europe. Hardly had the recession reached its lowest point in Germany in 2009, when the German government preached the necessity for hard austerity policies. The “debt brake” was anchored in the constitution: politics disempowered itself, shaped ...

Authorities define “violence” as any restriction of capital flows

Occupy Camp Frankfurt

As debate spilled over into a shouting match in the Hessian State Parliament concerning the effective ban of Blockupy protests this 16 – 19 May in Frankfurt am Main, the administrative decision that effected this ban has come to light. The key finding being that: The blockade action cannot be assessed as peaceful. To make blockades and hinder traffic with the goal of closing down the entire financial district and the everyday life of the metropolis, has to be defined as violence.1 The decision continues: Furthermore, in order that “European legal obligations” be guaranteed, the European Central Bank “must be functional, especially in times of financial crisis around the clock”. This includes things like “the operation of large-value payment system TARGET2”.2 So in ...

Blockupy in Frankfurt: Die Linke seek to overturn Blockupy ban

Demonstration in Frankfurt 31 March 2012 "Capitalism IS the Crisis"

The City of Frankfurt has attempted to close down demonstations planned for 16 – 19 May in the city’s banking district by requiring that any public order discussions prior to general approval only be entered into if organisers guarantee that no violence or other illegal activity will occur, and indeed waive their right to organise effective civil disobedience. Frankfurt Councillor for Public Order Markus Frank claims he is ready for discussions with the organisers of the upcoming Blockupy protests, but has required that they provide a waiver of blockades and violence. The Left Party (“Die Linke”) has launched legal action to overturn the Blockupy ban. Councillor Frank has stated that “We just want to prevent riots and blockades, but not a demonstration”. If ...
