From the point of view which takes the prohibitive law to be the founding moment of the narrative, the law both produces sexuality in the form of “dispositions” and appears disingenuously at a later point in time to transform these ostensibly “natural” dispositions into culturally acceptable structures of exogamic kinship.“ – Gender Trouble (1999)
We are pleased to invite you to the Argumentation 2023: International Conference on Alternative Methods of Argumentation in Law, which will be held in Brno, Czech Republic. Aiming to bring critical legal topics to Central European space, this year’s theme is performativity. Although legal performativity has long been a familiar concept, it is constantly changing and problematizing our connection to the law. The ways in which law co-creates our subjectivity, how it affects our corporreal experience, or how law actively constructs reality based on the fluid distinction between verbal articulation and real material effects, are all questions that remain subject to debate.
Covering a wide range of topics from legal visualisation to linguistic performativity, the Argumentation Conference is a great opportunity to reopen these discussions while invigorating the position of critical legal theory in Central Europe and building an international community. Conference will be hosted by Law Faculty of Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic on 20 October 2023. Abstract submission deadline is 31 July 2023.
We are truly thrilled to announce our keynote speaker will be Elisabeth Holzleithner from the Vienna Law School.
